With tickets sold out a week ahead of the launch, Crystal Lagoons has just inaugurated Lagoon Park Bucharest, a Public Access Lagoons® project, also known as PAL® developments, in Romanian capital Bucharest.

The centerpiece of the new development is a large crystalline lagoon, suitable for swimming and water sports, accessible to all through ticketed entry. The lagoon is surrounded by 11,000 m² of white sandy beaches, restaurants, beach bars, terraces, sports and events areas, exhibition halls, green areas, and bespoke services that will complement the lagoon, epitomizing the quintessential PAL® experience.

The complex forms part of the Central District Lagoon City megaproject , which also features a 5-star Radisson hotel with 323 rooms and 400 luxury apartments for rent, 8,200 m² of class A office space, retail areas, restaurants, cinemas, a sky bar and spa.

The project is being developed in partnership with Forty Management, a renowned and award-winning Romanian firm with which the multinational innovation company has already built projects in ItalyFranceSpain, the Czech RepublicPoland and Hungary.

With this new complex, Crystal Lagoons is bringing idyllic beach life to an iconic Mediterranean European city. Through the PAL® modelthe company will revolutionize the experience quality of life of the people of Bucharest, providing an attractive entertainment experience to the area, and transforming it into a successful leisure destination.

“Throughout the world, and particularly in EuropePAL® projects are known for their appealing and disruptive innovative urban approach, bringing a piece of the ocean to cities, a phenomenon similar to what happened 200 years ago in England, when the first urban parks were created in London, bringing a forest experience to the city,” said Jean Pierre Juanchich, Global Business Director of Crystal Lagoons.

The environmental impact of Crystal Lagoons® technology was a core element of the multiple projects developed in partnership with Forty Management, which valued the 40% reduction in carbon footprint that PAL® projects offer, which reduced the number of trips made to coastal destinations by around 50%, as people can enjoy beach life closer to home.

Crystal Lagoons currently has more than 1,000 projects ongoing at different stages of development and negotiations in 60 countries.

About Crystal Lagoons

Crystal Lagoons is a US-based company that has developed a technology allowing crystalline lagoons of unlimited sizes to be built and maintained at very low costs anywhere.

With over 2,900 patents in 180 countries, its sustainable amenities use up to 100 times fewer chemicals and only 2% of the energy required by conventional swimming pools. Bureau Veritas verified the technology’s efficient water use, concluding that a 1-Ha/2.5-ac lagoon utilizes 33 times less water than a golf course and 40% less water than a park of the same size. Crystal Lagoons® amenities can use sea, fresh, and brackish water, which is abundant and has no other use.

Appellation, the groundbreaking culinary-first hotel brand by celebrated American chef Charlie Palmer and luxury hospitality veteran Christopher Hunsberger, joins forces with visionary vintner Frank Léal of Léal Hospitality to announce Hotel MOHI by Appellation. Set to debut in fall 2025 in Silicon Valley’s charming Downtown Morgan Hill, the opening will mark the first full-service luxury boutique hotel in the destination.

Léal Hospitality has established Morgan Hill as a bourgeoning food and wine scene for Northern California, with epicurean-focused locations like MOHI Farm, Léal Vineyards, and MOHI Ranch, among others. Appellation’s foray into the community takes the Morgan Hill guest experience to another level. The 76-key, five-story Hotel MOHI by Appellation will offer unmatched accommodations for exploration and discovery of this vibrant town. As one of the pioneers behind the transformation of the Sonoma County Wine Region, Charlie Palmer now has his sights set on putting Morgan Hill on the map in a similar fashion.

“Our vision for Appellation is to uncover lesser-known culinary destinations by opening hotels in locales like Morgan Hill,” notes Appellation co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Charlie Palmer. “Appellation hotels are meant to express the essence of the place with a sense of ‘here.’ Like the rest of our portfolio, we will be truly embedding food and beverage into every aspect of Hotel MOHI by Appellation, from design to programming.”

Hotel MOHI by Appellation will be thoughtfully designed as the ultimate urban retreat for exploring Morgan Hills’ walkable downtown area – whose lively restaurant scene, boutique shops, cozy cafes and historic buildings are complemented by surrounding Santa Clara County vineyards. Intentionally positioned at 4.5 stars with approachable luxury in mind, the hotel will feature world-class service with a suite of modern amenities and experiences, while also intimately immersing guests in the local community.

At the heart of the hotel will be a 215-seat signature Charlie Palmer restaurant and bar, sourcing from on-site gardens, Léal Hospitality’s estates and other local purveyors. The hotel plans to produce key ingredients from scratch, including roasting small-batch coffee and making olive oil with olive trees grown on the premises.

“Frank Léal is a beloved pillar of the community. Leveraging his long-time commitment to Morgan Hill and to farm fresh, locally sourced dining will be key to the success of Hotel MOHI by Appellation,” says Appellation co-founder and Chief Operating Officer Christopher Hunsberger. “His establishments have long drawn in crowds from the greater Silicon Valley area, and we are excited to start bringing wider, much-deserved attention to the region with Hotel MOHI by Appellation.”

Additional hotel amenities will include a serene terrace pool and deck with lush greenery complete with a tucked-away pocket bar, a marketplace and flower shop lounge, and a café and bakery that transitions into a cocktail and wine bar come evening. The state-of-the-art, wine-country-inspired spa and fitness club will boast five treatment rooms offering olive scrub treatments, salt cleansing massages and a sauna room.

Hotel MOHI by Appellation’s 7,730 square-feet ballroom will have the capacity to host up to 500 people, representing the single largest indoor event space in Morgan Hill. The ballroom will also provide a modern organic design flex space that can open to a show-kitchen for live action culinary experiences. With an additional 1,861 square-feet of dedicated indoor function space, Hotel MOHI by Appellation will offer the most premium accommodations of any competitive luxury resorts or wineries in the region.

“Léal Hospitality’s existing portfolio of Morgan Hill-based venues currently host more than 65,000 annual guests across 400 weddings and events per year, and we are consistently forced to turn away 50 percent of inquiries due to limitations in venue space and surrounding lodging accommodations,” remarks Frank Léal, Owner, Léal Hospitality. “Our partnership to create Hotel MOHI by Appellation will allow us to accommodate a wider array of meetings and celebrations, solidifying Morgan Hill’s position as a major hub for gatherings in Silicon Valley and the surrounding wine country.”

With the addition of Hotel MOHI by Appellation, the Appellation brand continues to carve a name for itself in several iconic destinations. The brand will continue a steady stream of new-build openings with Appellation Healdsburg next year, followed by Appellation Sun Valley, Appellation Petaluma and Appellation Pacific Grove.

For more information, please visit appellationhotels.com.

About Appellation
Appellation, meaning “to give a name to a place,” crafts unparalleled culinary-centered places of hospitality that immerse guests in the uniquely local aspects of exceptional destinations. The first hotel brand born from the merger of culinary and hospitality, Appellation is about comfort and connection over formality and extravagance – perfectly blending luxury amenities with real world experiences born of this place. The company is the vision of co-founders Charlie Palmer, one of America’s best-known chefs who arguably created the successful hotel restaurant model, and Christopher Hunsberger, who spent over 30 years in strategic leadership roles with Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts. When the first Appellation hotels open in Healdsburg (CA), Morgan Hill (CA), Sun Valley (ID), Petaluma (CA), Pacific Grove (CA), they will set a new standard for immersion in culinary, culture and community that can only be found “here.” To learn more, visit www.appellationhotels.com.

Nestled in the heart of Southern Nevada and just minutes from the world-famous Las Vegas Strip, Henderson is a picturesque City that offers a myriad of attractions for travelers. Breathtaking outdoor trails, scenic day trips, and world-renowned golf courses are just a few of the activities that visitors can indulge in while enjoying the endless sunlit skies and organic beauty of the majestic Southern Nevada landscape.

Here, recreation is more than an outing, it’s an adventure with incomparable beauty. Hikers and bikers can trek more than 180 miles of spectacular outdoor trails, golfers enjoy their pick of champion courses, and recreational options abound— with scenic day trips to the picturesque Zion National Park, Red Rock Canyon State Park and its historic rock formations, and last but not least, Lake Mead, home to the iconic Hoover Dam.

Begin your recreational feast with nine courses—golf courses, that is—which include the Jack Nicklaus-designed gem at Lake Las Vegas. An alluring backdrop for golf, the lake’s brilliant blue waters also offer a refreshing plunge into kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, flyboarding, and even yacht cruises. Back on land, hiking and biking trails stretch out across the City, ribbons of exploration threading through suburban streetscapes and through dramatic mountain and desert vistas. Take your pick from easy, intermediate, challenging and even equestrian trails.

The same is true for dining. In a City where food is a passion and every meal a celebration, diners enjoy a bountiful array of choices, from acclaimed chefs throughout Henderson and the City’s Water Street District – a historic street lined with breweries, retail and restaurants specializing in flaming fajitas to flavor-packed steaks, from robust and upscale Italian flavors to sports bar fare elevated to an art. You won’t want to miss the many picture-worthy and locally inspired murals while strolling Henderson’s original downtown.

A tasting tour of the Ethel M chocolate factory is another sweet treat, and in the aptly named Artisan Booze District, where spirits are indeed both an art and a craft, you can sip and savor your way through a brilliant lineup: Original brews in pubs like Crafthaus Brewing as well as handcrafted, small-batch wines at Vegas Valley Winery, where tours and a tasting room are special draws.

When you’re ready to relax, Henderson is home to many premier hotels such as the M Resort and Spa, Green Valley Ranch Resort Spa and Casino and lakeside hotels surrounding Lake Las Vegas, including Hilton Lake Las Vegas Resort and Spa and The Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort & Spa.

With diverse recreational options, exceptional dining experiences, and comfortable accommodations, visitors can custom tailor their visit to suit their needs and preferences. Whether you’re a family seeking a fun-filled getaway or a business traveler in need of a restful retreat, Henderson is the ideal destination for you.

What was once a well-kept secret among powder-chasing purists, McCall, Idaho is most certainly getting noticed. Long before its first ski resort opened, winter recreation in the area around McCall was part of the local mountain culture. Now, powder hounds have two major ski resorts (Brundage Mountain Resort and Tamarack Resort) to choose from, a local ski mountain (the Little Ski Hill) that offers a great family friendly atmosphere, 500 plus miles of groomed snowmobile trails, six Nordic ski areas, and every imaginable winter adventure in between.

If a winter wonderland is on your bucket list this year, here are the top five must-do activities in McCall.

#1 Chase Fresh Tracks

Brundage SnowCat Adventures has been guiding powder-hungry skiers and snowboarders to 18,000 acres of coveted backcountry stashes since the early 90’s. Unlike your typical snowcat program, the terrain doesn’t lie adjacent to the ski area. Instead, you’ll journey several miles beyond the ski area into the Goose Creek drainage and ski or snowboard from four different mountain peaks.

#2 Enjoy Bluebird Groomers

Whether you’re a powder hound, a beginner learning the ropes, or a family looking for some playful adventure, Tamarack has you covered with fresh, fun options and legit alpine terrain. With 2,800 feet of total vertical drop, the views and the playful pitch variations make for a perfect day on the slopes. Be sure to check out the namesake Tamarack grove for a fresh twist on tree skiing. The Tamaracks drop their amber needles each fall, causing these trees to develop less intense tree wells than evergreens and creating a unique off-piste experience that powder fans won’t want to miss. And new this year for the family, “Lumberjack Land” with features like berms and whoop-di-dos, a teepee you can ski under, and lots of friendly looking characters you can high-five on your way through.

#3 Snowmobile the Backcountry

Immerse yourself in the beautiful backcountry of the Payette National Forest with a snowmobile tour from Brundage Snowmobile Adventures. For those new to the sport, a guided tour is a great way to make this high-octane adventure approachable. Tours are geared tailored to take advantage of the fresh groomed trails and lead you to magical places like Hazard Lake and Upper Payette Lake.

#4 Après Idaho Style

Nothing caps a day in the snow quite like a quality après experience. Downtown McCall has that elusive small-town charm with loads of friendly boutiques, bistros, and restaurants for a drink and a bite. We love Rupert’s at Hotel McCall for a decidedly Idaho menu. Chef Gary Kucy combines well-loved staples with adventurous eats while the bar serves up craft cocktails and an impressive wine list to match.

#5 Get Cozy

One of the best things about staying in a mountain town is taking in the view from your warm and cozy lodgings. The Glass House offers a unique take on a traditional vacation rental with stunning views of Payette Lake. With three bedrooms, two baths, ample room to hold the entire family, and two blocks from the heart of downtown McCall, this vintage showstopper is the perfect home base. Looking for something more traditional? Book a room at Hotel McCall. Built in 1904, this boutique hotel offers the warmth of a bed and breakfast with the amenities of a modern hotel.

While the sun stretches out her time above the horizon, thousands of beach lovers travel from far and wide to spend their vacation enjoying the bustling energy of the summer season along the pristine coast of Southern Delaware. When the summer crowds return home and the sun begins to dip earlier each evening, showing off its deeper fall hues—the locals and long-time visitors begin to whisper about the “second-season” like a hidden treasure. What some call the “off-season”, others call the best time of the year—the beauty without the bustle.

Good news travels fast and, with each new year, the second season welcomes all back to the beach even after the swimsuits and board shorts have been packed away.

In the air, there’s a feeling of…Festivals. The new year along the Southern Delaware Coast kicks off with the 2023 Fire and Ice Festival: “Lights, Camera, Action!” taking place on January 27-29, 2023. Experience the beach like you never have before with some movie magic at this Hollywood themed event. Spend the weekend taking in 63,000 pounds of ice that have been transformed into masterfully crafted sculptures. Enjoy other winter festivities including bonfires, live music, outdoor movies, and more. Visitors and locals alike buzz over the local Tasting Tour, Drink Competitions, and warm up with the comfort of an old-fashioned Chili Cook-off. Local businesses and towns join to extend the joy of the holiday season with something for everyone. It all caps off with a firework show that rivals the fourth of July.

Before you know it, the morning light starts peeking in earlier and lingering later every day to see what it’s been missing. Spring puts on a show for those who love wildlife; and fishermen and foodies together all eagerly await the first catches of the season. For those who are ready to get back outside after staying cozy indoors over the winter months, the award-winning 34th Annual Ocean to Bay Bike Tour is our early kickoff for the season. Taking place on the last weekend in April, riders of all experience levels can participate in any of the cycling tours that cover over 180 miles of Sussex County’s beautiful beaches, bays, and beyond.

Come back and continue to explore, endless opportunities abound. Stay for “local’s summer” that begins the week after Labor Day with our 45th Annual Bethany Beach Boardwalk Arts Festival featuring 100 juried artists. Wind along sandy trails through black pines. Kayak along the banks of the canals, bay, and shorelines or spend the day fishing, surfing, or finally fitting in that round of golf. If it is retail therapy you need, shop tax-free among many unique boutiques, galleries, and local specialty shops. There is something sweet about taking in the salty sea air while doing the things you love. And whether you prefer salty, sweet, or savory, there are hundreds of restaurants to choose from. The Culinary CoastTM is brimming with a variety of spectacular dining; boasting award-winning chefs, farm-to-table dishes, and mouth-watering seafood. The length of days might change from summer to winter, but the truth is that time doesn’t fly so fast when you realize the places you love to visit in the summer season are full of hidden gems year-round, with the beach as the backdrop.

As a person who spends what feels like half his life in hotels, I can assure you that the Canopy Portland Waterfront in Portland, Maine, is more than just a place to rest your head; it’s a retreat, an experience, and a breath of fresh coastal air. Having recently spent three unforgettable nights at this impeccable establishment, I can confidently say that the Canopy Portland Waterfront is not just a hotel; it’s a haven for those seeking a luxurious yet authentic Maine experience. From the exquisite rooms to the exceptional staff, the mesmerizing rooftop bar, and the delectable breakfast at the Salt Yard, this hotel experience was nothing short of extraordinary.

Upon arrival at Canopy Portland Waterfront, I was immediately struck by the kindness of the valet, who immediately explained to me the hotel’s very simple and convenient procedure of requesting my vehicle via text, before immediately offering to help remove my luggage from the vehicle. Stepping into the lobby, I was welcomed by the warmth of the staff. As I approached the front desk, their impeccable hospitality shone through as I was efficiently checked in and informed about the various amenities and services available to enhance my stay. The staff went above and beyond to provide me with recommendations for local dining and activities, ensuring that I got the most out of my time in Portland. I should also mention that throughout my three-day stay, I had to visit that front desk quite frequently for various reasons. Despite encountering several different staff, they all greeted me with the same warm smile, and were all equally as kind and helpful.

The room, however, was where the magic truly unfolded. The Canopy Portland Waterfront offers a variety of room types. I didn’t have the privilege of staying in a Bay View King Room, as they were all booked, and I was a walk-in booking on very short notice. However, I did stay in the Deluxe King Room with City View, and the moment I walked in I was struck by the beautiful view of Portland that stretched out before me. The room was thoughtfully designed, exuding a bright, chic ambiance that perfectly balanced modern aesthetics with warm, inviting textures. The elegant nautical wood tones, tasteful décor, and thoughtful lighting design created a soothing environment, instantly making me feel at ease. The room was spotlessly clean and well-maintained, a testament to the high standards of housekeeping.

The plush king-sized bed was a cocoon of comfort, ensuring that every night’s sleep was restful. From the heavenly bed linens to the oversized bed pillows, no detail was overlooked. It was a place of solace, a space where I could recharge after a day of exploration. The addition of a chaise lounge and a desk only added to the room’s functionality and comfort.
The bathroom was equipped with a rainfall shower. The amenities provided, from the premium bath products to the fluffy towels, elevated the bathing experience to a whole new level. The large mirror and well-lit space made it easy to prepare for the day ahead or unwind in the evening.

Moreover, the room was equipped with modern conveniences, including a smart TV and high-speed Wi-Fi, ensuring that I could stay connected and entertained. The in-room Nespresso machine was a delightful touch, offering a fresh cup of coffee to start the day.

Whenever I give a review of a hotel, I prefer not to stay in the hotel’s most luxurious accommodations so that I can get an honest experience of what the hotel has to offer. However, in this case, I felt so spoiled in my deluxe room that I now have to go back and stay in the Canopy’s most luxurious room, just to experience it.

The Canopy Portland Waterfront’s staff was a shining example of what exceptional hospitality should be. From the valets who greeted me upon arrival to the front desk personnel who were always ready to assist, their dedication and genuine warmth were evident throughout my stay.

Housekeeping, too, deserves special commendation. They consistently maintained the room’s impeccable condition, ensuring that it was always a joy to return to after a day of adventure. The attention to detail and commitment to guest comfort was truly impressive. I greatly appreciated the hotel very conveniently placing a QR code in the room that allowed me to tip the housekeeper.

The Luna Rooftop Bar and Patio at Night

It was not just the efficiency and professionalism of the staff that made the difference; it was their genuine passion for creating a memorable experience for me as a guest. Whether it was a friendly chat in the elevator or a personalized recommendation for a dish at the hotel’s restaurant, the staff made me feel like a treasured friend visiting their home.
One of the standout features of the Canopy Portland Waterfront is undoubtedly the spectacular Luna Rooftop Bar. Perched high above the bustling streets of Portland, this unique establishment offers a breathtaking, unobstructed panoramic view of Casco Bay. As someone who appreciates both the beauty of the natural world and the craft of mixology, this rooftop was nothing short of paradise.

Upon arrival at Luna Rooftop Bar, I was instantly captivated by the open-air setting and the modern yet relaxed atmosphere. The wooden deck and stylish furnishings exuded a coastal elegance that perfectly complemented the stunning vistas beyond. It was a sublime spot to unwind, whether sipping on a signature cocktail or simply gazing at the mesmerizing sunset over the bay.

The cocktail menu was a carefully curated masterpiece with a range of creative concoctions that celebrated the flavors of the region. I had the pleasure of indulging in a “Tijuana Temptress” with Clase Azul and a refreshing blend of hopped syrup, grapefruit, lime, and bubbles. The bartenders were not just masters of mixology, they were also friendly and knowledgeable about the local area. The place was beyond busy, yet I was waited on with care as though I was the only one at the bar.

The rooftop was also an ideal place to socialize with fellow travelers or locals. During my visit, I met some fascinating individuals who shared their love for the city, and I even made a few new friends over a shared appreciation for the scenery and the libations. The atmosphere was convivial and warm, making it easy to connect with others and create memorable experiences. My server was a gentleman named Petar, who was the epitome of exceptional service; the perfect balance between being personable and having a sense of humor, and the ability to make sure his customers have everything they need.

Amazing Breakfast Spread at Salt Yard Canopy PortlandWaterfront Hotel

A great day starts with a great breakfast, and the Salt Yard at Canopy Portland Waterfront set the bar incredibly high. Each morning, I indulged in the hotel’s breakfast offerings, and I was consistently impressed with the quality, variety, and service.

The Salt Yard offered a delightful range of options, catering to various tastes and dietary preferences. From fresh fruit to pastries, eggs to local cheeses, and a selection of gourmet coffees and teas, there was something to satisfy every craving. The menu celebrated local ingredients and flavors, providing a genuine taste of Portland’s culinary scene. I ordered the Classic Breakfast, and as a person who has dined everywhere one can in the city, I can honestly say it is the best breakfast I have ever had in Portland, Maine.

What truly stood out was the professionalism and warmth of the Salt Yard’s staff. The servers were attentive without being intrusive, and their genuine interest in ensuring my breakfast experience was exceptional was evident. It was a pleasant way to start the day, with a delicious meal in a cozy and stylish environment.

In retrospect, my three-night stay at the Canopy Portland Waterfront in Portland, Maine, was more than just a hotel experience; it was an immersion into the soul of this beautiful coastal city. From the enchanting rooms that were a sanctuary of comfort and style to the exceptional staff who went above and beyond to ensure my stay was unforgettable, the Canopy PortlandWaterfront exceeded all expectations.

The Luna Rooftop Bar was a revelation, offering a unique perspective on the city and the bay, while the Salt Yard provided a delicious introduction to the culinary delights of Portland. This hotel is not just a place to stay; it’s a destination in and of itself.

Many hotels make the mistake of going above and beyond for the sake of being larger, offering an abundance of options that range from multiple restaurants to shops, spas and so on. Personally, I feel as though simplicity that knows how to do the important things right is the winning formula. Canopy offers everything one needs without overextending themselves, which allows them to do all of it perfectly.

As a frequent traveler and food and travel enthusiast, I hope you’ll take me seriously when I state, if you’re seeking an exceptional and truly authentic experience in the heart of Portland, look no further than the CanopyPortland Waterfront – it’s quite simply the best hotel experience I’ve ever had, and I can’t wait to return. •
